Merry Christmas, Squeeze Reader readers

It's that time of year, and just in time for our 200th post, when we reflect upon that Squeeze single from 1979 that gets a nice write-up here.

Just in case our paths don't cross between now and Dec. 25, Merry Christmas everyone. And Happy Hanukkah after that. And Happy Kwanzaa after that.

Unconfirmed report: Chris on BBC Radio London at noon TODAY

A Chris-lister says that Difford --- turning into quite the media darling, actually --- will be on BBC Radio London (94.9 FM) on the Robert Elms radio show around noon. If it happens, and you miss it, you can hear it later on Radio London's Web site.

A Brighton show memoir

Jackie writes a story of Squeeze heartbreak and later surprise in Brighton. (I edited a few paragraph breaks to make it more readable in the blog format.)

The venue - the Komedia Brighton - is a fairly well known two floored place in Brighton more often used by comedians and lesser known folk than Glenn. As hubby Paul and I live half an hour away by train and I'd seen Paul Carrack a month before at the Brighton Arena (much bigger venue) we decided to go and see Glenn and the Fluffers.

The last time I saw Glenn was with Squeeze supporting Blondie - on our Anniversary - at Wembley Arena London some years back. Chris didn't appear, Glenn announced Squeeze were splitting up, and I was so gutted we left before the end of the Blondie set.

Anyway, at the Paul Carrack gig it was announced Chris was in the audience but I didn't see him and he certainly didn't appear on stage. So when Glenn announced the same I didn't get too excited. Chris joining Glenn for 'Cool for Cats' and 'Take Me...' was a joy to behold, and as I've told the Glenn list folk Chris looked superbly smart and relaxed.

Their previous disputes were joked about by Glenn, but unfortunately Chris didn't play anything else. I was buzzing all the way home for what must go down as one of the greatest nights ever, and one of the biggest surprises ever!
Thanks for sharing, Jackie! Now if the rest of us could just get that lucky.

More Glenn Tilbrook photos than you can shake a stick at

Yahoo! Photos: martyndan650's Photos - Fluffers_Dartford_17_12_05

Though why you would want to shake a stick at them, I have no idea.

Then again, I don't know why Cooter Brown is the standard for drunkenness either.

Need more coffee.

Jools in HDTV?

Will you be able to see Jools and his guests on Later clearer than live --- every wrinke, every pore and every bead of sweat? Online HDTV Magazine has (re?)written what appears to be a press release saying that RAVE HD, aiming to be the first must High Definition channel, has struck a deal with the BBC for 18 episodes of Later with Jools Holland.

The magazine describes Later thusly:

A staple of the BBC for the past decade, the Later studio is a "must visit" for musicians passing through London. World-class talent like Santana, Coldplay, The Foo Fighters, Burt Bacharach and Arcade Fire are among the 2006 line-up. Hosted by recording artist Jools Holland, a noted solo artist and founding member of Squeeze, each episode blends an eclectic range of artists, designed to appeal to a broad category of music lovers. For example, a single upcoming episode features Elton John, Keane, Interpol, Bloc Party, Ray Lamontagne, Old Crow Medicine and an interview with Pink Floyd's Nick Mason.

The press release also says that the deal requires the BBC to broadcast Jools in HDTV. BBC News has reported that the broadcasting corporation won't to go all HDTV by 2010, though other news reports say that a few shows (Rome, for example) are already produced that way for American markets.

I'd feel better about trusting this news if I could independently verify this it with the BBC, but no word on it on the Later Web page or any press release from the BBC. As it is, all I can verify from the Later page is that Franz Ferdinand will be on. Not a band thing to note.

Black Coffee for Christmas

If you can find it, KGSR, which is (wait for it) an Austin (Texas) Adult Album Alternative/ Americana radio station, has released a CD of music broadcasts. I don't know if our UK readers are familiar with American radio formats, but that strangely-named format is trying to evoke "adult alternative" with "album-oriented rock," and um... I guess twangy country rock, like Gillian Welch, I guess?

Anyway, somehow that includes Glenn Tilbrook's acoustic version of "Black Coffee in Bed." The Austin Statesman liked it.

According to KGSR's Web site, the CD also features Squeeze-friend, Aimee Mann. If you must have a copy of this CD, go get it at Waterloo Records' Web site.

Jools thinks Pink

Jools Holland is a guest on Pink Floyd guitarist/singer David Gilmour's first solo release in 22 years, according to Billboard magazine. Gilmour's new album, "On An Island," is due out March 6, so sayeth Billboard.

Welcome new Squeeze Readers, and a HUGE GINORMOUS HAND for Rob!

I want to give Rob a shout out for doing such a wonderful job keeping up the blog in my sudden and unexpected absence. (I got a new job and had to move, and thus lost my broadband connection for a few weeks.) Now, there are once again two insane Squeeze-heads at the reins and I see, thanks to Rob's tenacity, we also have a bunch of new e-mail subscriptions. Welcome, new readers. Thanks to everyone for your interest. Now, back to the Squeeze blogging.

GT News

Corina has updated her Glenn Tilbrook site. She is obviously a lady of great taste and refinement, as she links to our humble little site right here.

The big news is the new song available on iTunes -- a live version of "Domestic Distortion."

Time for a little controversy: Why is it that this song is only available to US iTunes users? Why not in the UK?

It's very frustrating to me as a fan in the digital age when there is material available in the US and not in the UK, in Japan but not in Australia, etc. I'm more than happy to pay for the music, but I don't want to buy the whole Japanese version of TAPP to get a different version of one song.

Ah well, please record companies, have all the different CD released versions you want. Just make sure everything is available for purchase online.

"I really didn't realise you could do so much with a pineapple"

Pip_3k has seen her first Glenn show. You'll have to follow the link to see what the title means.
